Brief Report:

NEW WORLD CHAMPIONS ARE KEBER ŠUŠTERŠIČ AND COIFFARD

523 players from 25 countries competed at the 8th ICO Crossminton World Championships powered by Speedminton in Warsaw, Poland, held over 3 days at the Warsawianka Tennis courts.

In elite categories, last two World Championships were dominated by Japanese stars Yurina Abe and Akihiko Nishimura, who won the Mixed Doubles again, but both lost the singles titles. 36-year old Jasmina Keber Šušteršič of Slovenia won her 4th World Champion title in Women’s category by defeating Abe in the final match (16:11, 16:14), after losing against her in the last two World Championships finals. Agate Kristiana Spare of Latvia and home favourite Marta Urbanik won bronze medals. In Open Division, young star Guenole Coiffard of France defeated Daniel Knofliček of Czechia in three exciting sets (10:16, 16:10, 16:13), while defending champion Akihiko Nishimura finished third, as did his compatriot Mizuki Tanaka. Open doubles were won by Yusuke Yoshitani and Shomu Tsukamoto of Japan, while Women Doubles were won by German pair Anja Rolfes and Andrea Horn.

In junior categories, ICO Junior Player of the Year 2024 Jan Ščavnicky Jr. (SVK) continued his domination by winning U18 singles and doubles titles, in pair with David Šomjak. Karin Takahashi (JPN) won the girls’ U18 singles title, and Eva Župevc/Tija Bervar (SVN) won the doubles title. Daniel Falcon Ramos (ESP) and Romana Michalikova (SVK) won the singles U16 titles, home players Pawel Kowalski and Liliana Runke won the U14 titles, while Hungarian juniors Balint Dobrai and Luca Igas won the U12 titles.

In senior categories, Patrick Schüsseler (GER) and Agnese Logoša (LAT) won the O40 singles titles, Shirube Kasahara (JPN) and Beata Jagiello (POL) won the O50 singles titles, home players Piotr Borowiec and Joanna Kaplon won the O60 singles titles and another home player Jerzy Knot won the O70 titles.
