The 5th ICO Crossminton World Championhships began with a spectacular opening ceremony in Budapest. The president of the International Crossminton Organization, Matjaz Sustersic welcomed the players, coaches and also introduced the new members of the ICO Board. After the the parade of the flags the championships is officially opened.
On Thursday the group matches and the finals of the U12, U14 boys and girls, the mixed doubles, the women doubles and the open doubles played in the Spike Hall. The Czech players took the most gold medals on the first day of the championships. Natalie Krpálkova in U12 girls, Zuzana Holesinka in U14 girls and Matej Krupicka in U14 boys are world champions. Also took the gold medal the Slovakian Jan Scavincky Jr. in U12 boys category. In doubles categories we could also see amazing battles. In Open category the No.3 seed doubles, David Zimmermanns/Patrcik Schüsseler crowned as a world champions. In women doubles an unfortunate injury decided the final after the No.1 seed Andrea Horn/Anja Rolfes duo had to retired, so the Slovenian Lori Skerl/Danaja Knez presented as the world champions. Also the mixed doubles played their matches on the first day, where surprisingly the No. 21 seed couples, Abe Yurina/Nishimura Akihiko won the gold medal.
On Friday the seniors also started the competition. They played in five categories, all of them in doubles, but only two finals were held to due the busy schedule on the second day of the tournament. Two others categories are concluded on Friday. The U18 male and famale competitions finished with the glory of Mauritius players. In male category Shameem Elaheebocus, in female category Sandilla Mourat became world champions in Budapest. In the final she won against the 15 years old Hungarian player Georgina Veres. The other postponed finals are going to be played on Saturday afternoon.
On Saturday the main events concluded in Budapest. In the Open category Per Hjalmarson won the final against Myhailo Mandyrk, and in the female category Jasmina Kerber won the gold medal. Because of the busy schedule some postponed category finals were also finished on Saturday. The evening was over with the Players Party in the downtown of Budapest.
On the final day of the 5th ICO Crossminton World Championships the juniors played the doubles. In U18 male doubles the Polish players, Maciej Filipowicz/Szymon Michniewicz won the gold medal, and in U18 female doubles the Nika Miskulin/Gala Zukic from Croatia became world champions. The other gold medals awarded in seniors. In female categories the Hungarian ladies were the best. Helga Braun won the gold in O40, Zsuzsanna Gerber triumphed in O50 categories. In the O40 category Patrick Schüsseler and in O50 László Rácz won the gold medal.
The end of this world championships Hungary closed on the top of the medal table with 6 gold medals in total in official and non-official categories, and Poland won the most medals with 18. There are 14 countries which collected medals in this championships in Budapest.
